Pam Blamey

Pam Blamey is a creative arts therapist with qualifications in social science, art therapy and 28 years in the counselling field. She is passionate about fairy tales, and believes there is more to them than ‘happily ever after’, including symbolism and metaphor, which nourish the spirit. They are part of the social environment, depicting in story form the highs and lows of the human condition. Pam uses fairy tales to examine personal and social issues, foster wellbeing, and explore creativity.
About Pam's Modality: Pam specialises in fairy tales, mythology and oral storytelling. This modality, within art therapy, is beneficial in fostering meaning-making, problem-solving and creativity, as well as building hope and resilience, resourcefulness and community cohesion. One of the principles of art therapy is the three-way relationship between the client, the therapist and the art. Feelings and issues are projected onto the art form and can then be seen, touched and worked with holistically. Storytelling, story-making, and mining the depths of traditional stories is a medium of art therapy, like painting or clay-work. Indeed, art therapy is multi-modal, using all these media and more.
