Elena Volkova is a transmedia storytelling practitioner with qualifications in literary and museum studies and creative industries (QUT). Her Higher Degree Research thesis explored the capacity of transmedia storytelling to support the integration of female Defence Force personnel back into civilian life. She designed an innovative narrative-based artistic practice that offers a range of services to assist in building resilient and sustainable peer support communities.  Her area of practice includes creative life story writing, digital storytelling, and oral history practice.

About Elena's modality: Elena presents an innovative narrative-based artistic practice that offers a range of services to assist in building resilient and sustainable peer support communities.  This practice includes digital storytelling, creative life story writing and oral history. Each of these modalities allows participants to access different parts of their brain to be able to change or reconcile various conflicting patterns and issues or to enable healing of traumatic memories. Central to this practice is digital storytelling. Democratic by nature, it enables people to produce personal stories spoken in their own voice and it doesn’t require special skills or knowledge of computer software. Working in unison each modality compliments the other. It is creative and flexible, and reflects the way our modern society is engaged in the process of meaning-making, through a multi-modal, multi-platform, co-creative and collaborative work that brings together a workshop and the first person narrative.
